Dr.
Avraam Mavridis has over twenty five (25) years of experience in the design and
implementation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Geomatics projects
and applications towards Agroenvironmental Sustainability and other scientific
fields (Earth Observation, Socioeconomic Resilience, Protection of Natural
Resources, Wildlife Protection (Flora and Fauna), Fair Trade, Cultural Heritage,
Regional Planning, Energy, Blue Growth and more). He has worked as Expert with
several national and international organizations (several European Commissions’
Directorate Generals on Space, BioEconomy, ICT, Environment, of EIP AGRI;
as expert of the German Aerospace Center (DLR); as senior researcher of major research institutions and
organizations: iCRE8, ELGO DEMETER,
GSRI,
SBE,
OPC, NGO ARCTUROS,
of universities (AUTH,
IHU,
Perrotis College,
Hellenic Firemen
Academy, WPI,
Lincoln),
and of companies (Epsilon Malta Ltd,
PROTEUS,
REFARM,
etc.). He has permanent presence in international conferences, seminars and
workshops on related subjects. He has (co)authored 40
research papers, 6 posters and 6 national and international books.
In recent years, he led as Senior Executive Officer and Professor (2020-21) of
the National Planning
Authority in Malta, research and educational projects through
the SPATIAL TRAIN
program; he has coordinated and supported as Senior GIS Officer, R&D and
field activities of 2 LIFE projects NGO ARCTUROS
(staff>35 people in Greece and the surrounding countries). Recently, he was
Senior Postdoctoral Researcher of the University of the Aegean on Smart Blue
Growth («Network of Research and Technology of Aegean Archipelago:
Strengthening Regional Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Excellence» - MIS
5046494).Currently, while teaching
by invitation in MSc Courses of Perrotis College, and
of the International Hellenic University (MSc in Logistics and MSc in Innovative Systems of
Sustainable Agricultural Production), he works as Research Associate
of the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) and as Scientific
Consultant of the startup REFARM.
He has extended educational experience, at
pre-/post-graduate university level, of more than 9.000 ed. hours and member of
over 65 projects (all stages). Important Awards in the last years: In 2023, he was PI and coordinator of the proposal
'AGRISTEWARD', top finalist of the national ELEVATE GREECE competition, in 2022, he was PI
and coordinator of the proposal ‘IDEA’, top finalist of the national TROPHY
CHALLENGE; in 2021, he was awarded the “Green Award” of HORIZON-2020 projects in Malta, as a researcher of the team of the Sim4NEXUS project
while leading education and research of the program; In 2020, he was selected as a Marie Curie RISE scholar at the “SMARTSHIP” project; in 2018, he received the “Athinoula A.
Martinos Professor Award of 2017-2018”, for distinction in teaching, research
and service. Moreover, since 2010, he has been
continuously selected as Expert Evaluator of EC, having evaluated, up to now,
143 research proposals on several research frameworks (Horizon-Europe, Horizon
2020, Fp7, Fp6, Fp5, ERA, CINEA, EIT, EASME, ERANETMED, FIREWARE, KBBE, etc.).
Exceptional: He has created
the novel concept/model of Precision Organic Agriculture developing algorithms
of Spatial Multicriterial Analytics through GIS applications towards spatial
entities (998 combinations) related with natural ecosystems, policies and anthropogenic
constructions and wildlife (flora, fauna and waters). His managerial actions with
the NGO ARCTUROS were deployed in 3 other, national and
cross border regions of 2500 up to 8500 sq. kilometers.
He is
married with Eleftheria and they have two children, Panagiotis (23 y) and Maria
Markella (15 y).
